Dermal Fillers: 4 Tips To Prevent Bruising After Your Injections

Posted on

Dermal filler services are very popular for several reasons. Having dermal fillers injected into the face is non-invasive and can provide wonderful results by filling in wrinkles and fine lines and making a person look rested and refreshed. Dermal fillers also have almost no recovery period, so a person can elect to have fillers injected without having to worry about missing work or other events. One downside to dermal fillers is the fact that it is possible for the injected areas to bruise. If you're interested in dermal fillers, use the following tips to help prevent bruising:

Carefully Select Your Injector

Dermal fillers are offered at a number of places, from med spas to dermatologist offices. If you want the best results and hope to deal with very little to no bruising, your best option is to carefully select the person who will be injecting the fillers. Before you make an appointment for dermal fillers, don't be afraid to ask what kind of training a person has completed and how experienced he or she is in injecting fillers. Taking the time to pick the right injector can greatly minimize the likelihood of noticeable bruising.

Utilize Ice

The coldness of an ice pack helps to constrict blood vessels, making it much less likely for the vessel to be affected by the injection of a dermal filler. In order to prevent bruising, it is best to ice the area prior to your appointment. After the appointment, ice the area again to minimize swelling and keep bruising down.

Avoid Working Out

The reasons that some people experience bruising after having dermal fillers injected is because capillaries in their face were temporarily damaged by the needle. One of the things that damaged capillaries need in order to heal quickly and not form a bruise is minimal blood flow. Since working out increases your heart rate and blood flow, it is in your best interest to avoid working out or going to the gym for a couple of days after you have your dermal fillers injected.

Don't Drink Alcohol

While a cocktail or a glass of wine is something that is enjoyed by many, it is important to avoid alcohol the night before your injections and for a couple of days after. Alcohol is known to have anti-platelet properties; platelets are essential to preventing bleeding and bruising in vessels and capillaries, so you don't want to consume anything that changes how your platelets operate.
